The wood fireplace you stopped using can hold a fire again—no wood to haul, no ash to sweep, no remodel. Quick Facts • Heating Capacity: 1,375–2,750 sq ft • Fuel: Natural gas, or propane with a conversion kit. • Controls: Optional remote adjusts power, flame height, and heat output. • Fan: None Who It’s For The wood-burning fireplace in your living room has been dark for a while—hauling wood, sweeping ash, and tending a fire stopped being worth it somewhere along the way. You need a real fire in the fireplace you already have , without the wood . If what you want back is a full, lively fire on an ordinary weeknight, this set delivers it with nothing more than a connection to an existing gas line. A sealed gas insert will put more heat in the room, but nothing puts flames back in a dormant fireplace with less disruption than the Napoleon Fiberglow GL18. What Makes It Special Napoleon’s PHAZER logs are exclusive to its fireplaces, and they do what molded logs can’t: they glow like wood that’s been burning all afternoon . High flames move around them, and the set comes dressed with solid cast iron andirons and grate, large charcoal embers, and lava rocks, so the finished fire has the look of a fireplace that’s been used and loved for years. The fire isn’t only for looking at. The flames generate infrared heat that radiates into the room —warmth you feel on your skin, the way the sun warms your face —rather than a blast of blown air. And because the ignition has battery backup, it still lights when the power is out, as long as you’ve kept batteries in it. Installation is simple—a connection to an existing gas line in the fireplace you already have, licensed work done to code—and the set is backed by Napoleon’s President’s Limited Lifetime Warranty . Possible Downsides • This is an open fire, so most of its heat goes up the chimney. If heat is the priority, a sealed gas insert is the better tool for the same fireplace. • It cannot be installed in a bedroom or bathroom. • The battery backup needs batteries or a power bank, and they’re not included. If you want the fire back without the wood, the Fiberglow GL18 is the right decision. The room you used to walk past becomes the one everyone ends up in. Options for the GL18 include an on/off remote with digital screen, a natural gas to propane conversion kit, mineral rocks, and a battery pack.
