Stay with the open fire and you’ll be reloading all evening; choose the Evergreen and one load covers the night. What Makes It Special The large firebox is what buys the long burn: up to 14 hours between loads at 77.3% efficiency, so you load it once before bed and still have coals in the morning. The contemporary door frames 183 square inches of glass, and logs up to 20 1/2 inches long fit without trimming ordinary firewood. A bypass damper helps keep smoke in the firebox when you open the door to reload. An optional blower pushes heat farther into the house. Possible Downsides • The blower is an add-on. Heat reaches the room without it, just not as far. • The look is contemporary. For an arched, traditional front, look at the Medium or Large Flush arched inserts. • Wood heat is still work. You’ll split, stack, carry ash, and schedule a yearly sweep. If you want long, steady wood heat with a modern face on your fireplace, the Evergreen NexGen-Hybrid Insert is the right decision.
